Do you feel guilty?

Why do women feel guilty?

I know this is a generalisation but I think women tend to feel far more guilty than men when they put themselves first, or perceive that they do. I still feel guilty, at times, when I have a rest or take time for myself.

So many of us, from an early age have been conditioned to “be good” or “be nice”. Even if we didn’t quite achieve that, like me 😉, we still felt that was the truth and so to be good enough or worthy, we needed other people’s approval or validation. We can go through life trying to please people. This could be with our family, at work, in our relationships… Or even a stranger at the supermarket!

Do you want to stop feeling guilty and put yourself first?

Self-care is a complete form of self-love and if we don’t look after ourselves completely, not just as an afterthought, then we can start to become resentful, worn out or even depressed.

So, this is the time to take control and give yourself permission to do nothing for a whole hour, or a day or a week – you get the picture.

Here are 5 more things you can stop feeling guilty about

(It’s not just me, is it?!)

1. Watching rubbish telly

Not everything has to be high-brow or educational. Sit and enjoy Gogglebox if you wish, yes that’s my gorgeous go to telly programme that makes me laugh out loud which is such a joy.

2. Removing someone from your life

If there is someone in your life that is really not good for you, doesn’t nourish you, maybe undermines you, lets you down all the time, you can let them go with love.

3. Having the emotions you have

Sometimes, we feel angry, upset or fearful but then we can feel guilty for having these emotions. It’s OK to not feel OK, in other words, to feel crap. Having your feelings and expressing them (in a safe way) is so much better than pushing them down and ignoring them.

4. Asking yourself:  “What’s the most loving thing that I can do for myself right now?”

And then go do it without feeling guilty! It might be as simple as drinking a glass of water, or taking a moment to close your eyes and spend 5 minutes breathing, going within. Maybe giving yourself a big hug or tell yourself you’re amazing in the mirror, get outside for some fresh air. It’s about nourishing and nurturing yourself with acts of self-love without feeling bad about it. Listen to and honour yourself.  When you do what’s right for you, it’s right for everybody.

5. Having “stupid, mindless” fun!

I think having fun is a serious business and as adults, we can easily forget to have fun. Or if we do, we can start feeling guilty about it. Louise Hay, of course, talks about this in “How to Love Yourself” I’m sharing the video below on this very important subject! It creates joy, which creates more endorphins; more serotonin. This allows us to vibrate at a higher level. When we vibrate at a higher level, we open up more and more to life.

How to love yourself by Louise Hay – 12. Have Fun

Of course, this list can go on and on. What else could you add? I’d love to know what you’d add.

If you’ve had enough of feeling guilty and would like to find out about really loving yourself every day, why not book in a confidential call with me with this link?

CELEBRATING THE LEGACY OF LOUISE HAY

Celebrating the legacy of Louise Hay 1926-2017

Louise Hay’s gentle and powerful messages of love, forgiveness and acceptance have inspired me hugely both personally and professionally. Celebrating the legacy of Louise Hay is such an honour and especially on the anniversary of her passing 3 years ago.

She was an inspirational teacher who educated millions since the 1984 publication of her bestseller You Can Heal Your Life, which has sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. Renowned for demonstrating the power of affirmations to bring about positive change, Louise was the author of more than 30 books for adults and children, including the bestsellers The Power Is Within You (a personal favourite) and Heal Your Body.

Louise was an absolute pioneer in personal development.

The work of Louise addresses the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of ourselves, so it is timeless and offers us the opportunity for powerful personal transformation. The foundation of Louise’s work is, of course, loving and approving of yourself!

Here is some more of this amazing woman’s background to give you an idea of who she was (and is), taken from her website. Follow that link to find out more. Of course, if you’ve already come across Louise Hay, then I don’t need to say much more.

Dubbed “the closest thing to a living saint” by the Australian media, Louise Hay is also known as one of the founders of the self-help movement. Her first book, Heal Your Body, was published in 1976, long before it was fashionable to discuss the connection between the mind and body. Revised and expanded in 1988, this best-selling book introduced Louise’s concepts to people in 33 different countries and has been translated into 25 languages throughout the world.

FROM STRUGGLE TO STRENGTH

Through Louise’s healing techniques and positive philosophy, millions have learned how to create more of what they want in their lives, including more wellness in their bodies, minds, and spirits. Her own personal philosophy was forged from her tormented upbringing. Her childhood was unstable and impoverished, and her teen years were marked by abuse. Louise ran away from home and ended up in New York City, where she became a model and married a prosperous businessman. Although it appeared that her life had turned around, it was not until the marriage ended 14 years later that her healing really began.

Louise started what would become her life’s work in New York City in 1970. She attended meetings at the Church of Religious Science and began training in the ministerial program. She became a popular speaker at the church, and soon found herself counseling clients. This work quickly blossomed into a full-time career. After several years, Louise compiled a reference guide detailing the mental causes of physical ailments, and developed positive thought patterns for reversing illness and creating health. This compilation was the basis for Heal Your Body, also known affectionately as “the little blue book.” She began traveling throughout the United States, lecturing and facilitating workshops on loving ourselves and healing our lives.

It is always a joy to share a taste of her work in an easy to follow way so that others can get a taste of how I help women in my coaching.

You’ve had a little introduction to Louise Hay and this link will introduce who I am and how I work with women, helping them to move on from past trauma or just a period in their life where they might feel stuck.

Making Those Positive Changes

Image of Liz Doyle for the Making those positive changes blog

Do you see me blushing in the video below? â˜șâ˜ș Making those positive changes is possible for all of us.

This feedback was just so, well, amazing 😊

I am feeling really positive, and my life is changing.  The in depth self-focus has really made me think about how I view myself and talk to myself.  The change in self talk has been really powerful.  I am now much more aware, and less critical of myself.

All of the sessions were useful!  But in particular, the exercises on forgiveness were incredible. I have started a daily practice of forgiveness and it is very freeing.  Also love the inner child work which tied in with my other studies in a really helpful way.  Loved the intimacy work, spotting patterns I wasn’t aware of, and also doing the intuitive exercise where we draw our family and ask questions of them.

I found it all useful Liz!  Every single piece!  There wasn’t anything in this course that didn’t fire my curiosity!

A fantastic course for anyone who wants to become more self aware, who wants to be kinder to themselves and enjoy life more.  Making a daily plan at the end of the course is a great way to introduce the concepts into daily life.

I have a few questions for you

Which aspect of your life do you find most challenging at the moment?

Is there a repetitive pattern that keeps manifesting in your life that you are trying to break free from?

What difference would this make to your life if you were able to resolve this?

What is the wound/trauma that has had the greatest impact on the relationship you have with yourself and others?

After answering these questions, why not journal about them (just write down what comes up for you) and then reflect on what you are looking for in your life.

After completing the above, you may want to find out about my life changing private one to one coaching package> If so, just send me a quick email at hello@lizdoyle.net to book in a call. As I said, making those positive changes is there for all of us.

I look forward to hearing from you ♄

What are you GRATEFUL for?

Louise Hay Quote for What are you grateful for blog

During a beautiful client session recently, we did a wonderful exercise which was all about having an “attitude of gratitude”. You might have heard that term a few times before but it really is very meaningful. So I’m asking you, what are you grateful for?

It’s easy to make a mental or written list of everything you might be grateful for at any time of day. We can start and end the day with a short gratitude list or just think about it as we go about our activities.

No matter how hard life can get sometimes, gratitude is the most powerful way to get into that calmer space, be happier and welcome wonderful new experiences into your life.

This gorgeous quote from the amazing Louise Hay is just perfect, I think.

I have noticed that the Universe loves gratitude. The more grateful you are, the more ‘goodies’ you get.

I don’t mean only material things. I mean all the people, places and experiences that make life so wonderfully worth living

Louise Hay

Did you know research shows that being genuinely grateful:

· regulates the sympathetic nervous system that can calm potential anxiety responses;

· helps the brain to manage negative ruminations and focus on positive thoughts;

· is a catalyst for neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine that manage your emotions, anxiety, and stress response?

How about embodying gratitude through movement?

I love really feeling gratitude in my body. Not just saying words or writing them down but FEELING the gratefulness in my body. If you like the idea of that, then you might like this short yoga practice from Adriene

Grounding Into Gratitude – Root Chakra Yoga – Yoga With Adriene

By consciously practising gratitude, you can train your brain to pay attention to positive emotions and thoughts thus managing and reducing feelings of nervousness or anxiety.

As you can see, I have so much to say about gratitude! And I’ve only just got started!

I ask my clients “what are you grateful for?” a lot in our sessions. Developing the feelings of appreciation for our lives only bring more to be appreciative for.
